Providing Feedback > iDo
Guiding Steps
The following steps have been provided to guide you in applying the learning from this module to your practice. By completing these steps, you will be developing some of the artifacts that you will need to compile for the I Do component of this module. After you have compiled the artifacts, check off the items on the online checklist that are minimally required for the I Do section to complete this activity.
- Before the lesson
- To get started, look at an upcoming lesson and identify some key points within your activities where you would explicitly look for opportunities to provide feedback.
- Look at the assignment from that lesson to determine what types of errors or misconceptions students may have to be aware of when looking at the work or responding to student questions during the lesson.
- During the lesson
- As you work with students identify situations where the students are starting to go down the wrong path. Rather than just say, ‘good job’, ask them to explain why they thought their solution was correct. This gets them to think about the reason behind these problems rather than just the right answer.
- After the lesson
- When looking at student work identify where the student got the answer wrong. Instead of just marking it with an X, think about the error that the student has committed and think of a question to guide the student to rethink the solution or what may cause confusion (particularly when writing).
A rubric has been provided to inform you on how your submission will be assessed for the certification badge.

Compile the following artifacts of your practice:
- Provide a classroom video segment or schedule a live observation with your mentor to show how you provide feedback in the moment
- Provide paper versions of 3 student lesson work samples from the lesson to your mentor to show how you give feedback
- Provide a written explanation of your analysis of your students’ work samples and what your next steps will be to advance their learning
Once you have compiled your artifacts and reflection, upload them to share with your mentor. Using the discussion panel, discuss the feedback strategies you have applied within the classroom and their impact on your practice moving forward with your students.

Hi Joe! I am planning on submitting a video of my reading group lesson where I tried to get students to reflect on their process of reading text critically when responding to discussions of a reading selection. I think I met the criteria for the badge, but we can discuss today at our meeting.
